The Our Lady of Mount Carmel (OLMC) Parish in Pittsburgh, PA recently completed formation of its first Junior Ladies of Charity (JLOC) chapter. Leading the efforts were Ladies of Charity (LOC) members Mary Ellen O’Boyle, Moderator, and Co-Moderators Ann Hoyson and Rhonda Matt.
An Investiture Ceremony was conducted on August 30, 2020, during the 11:00am Sunday Liturgy. Celebrant Father Michael Zavage and Pittsburgh Diocesan LOC representative Mary Diaddigo led the formal altar initiation ceremony in which six high school girls were invested. Each girl received a blessed LOC cross, followed by the gifting of a single flower. Newly invested JLOC members are Katelyn Baker, Caileigh Duffy, Emily Koman, Brenda Fay Kunkel, Olivia Marché and Katharine Rose McGoey.
Beginning in early 2020, while preparing for their Investiture, the girls crafted Valentine-themed candy jars, then Easter cards for food bank recipients. Plans to offer face-painting for the Parish’s Lenten Fish Fry needed to be canceled due to the pandemic.
Although the pandemic has added challenges to meeting the JLOC mission, all six newly invested girls, along with Madison Grace Hartung (future investee), recently donated thirty-five home-crafted photo/card holders to Vincentian Nursing Home.
Congratulations to these inspiring girls and to their moderators.
Congratulations to these young ladies as they continue their works with the JLOC
It was a beautiful ceremony – many thanks to Mary Ellen, Anne and all the Ladies of Charity at Mt Carmel for starting this chapter. God Bless all of you and the girls!
Congratulations! You are a great group of girls, and I know that each of you will bring so much to this group.
