St. Gertrude’s LOC, Cincinnati

The Ladies of Charity of St. Gertrude in Cincinnati, Ohio collected over 600 pairs of underwear and socks for the Hope Emergency Center in Lynchburg, Ohio in August along with their yearly collection of school supplies. Hope is a social service outreach program located in a rural area, southeast of Cincinnati and the center services residents in Adams, Brown, Clinton and Highland counties. They provide for 250 families on a weekly basis providing them with food, clothing, and household items. In addition to the weekly distribution, a special effort is made to help families recover from personal disasters such as home fires and floods. The center is a “choice” pantry so the individual has a sense of dignity and control. Along with the weekly distribution, each year they provide many students with school supplies, a Thanksgiving dinner (provided for close to 500 families) and Christmas gifts (provided for over 1,000 families). The history between the two organizations working together began shortly after the center opened in 1975 by Sister Dorothy Thompson. The center is co-directed by Ursuline Sister Lucia Castellini and Dianne Vollman.

The Ladies of Charity of St. Gertrude are very thankful for the wonderful generosity from the parish and parishioners.
