“The main thing is, to keep the main thing, the main thing,” said Father Richard Gielow at Emmaus’ 5th Annual Ash Wednesday – Day of Reflection for the LOC of Lake Travis, TX. Of course, he was talking about staying focused on Our Lord, the Eucharist….everything else will fall into place.
Fr. Gielow is the National Spiritual Advisor for the Ladies of Charity and a member of the Vincentian Parish Mission Team in Kansas City, MO. Some of you may recall he presented a parish mission at Emmaus several years ago before the PLC was built.
Nearly 90 parishioners attended this year’s Day of Reflection, taking precious time to prepare their hearts for Lent. Feedback following the retreat made it clear they felt it was time well spent.
Mary Cay and Bob Murray hosted Fr. Gielow in their home and she said he was truly happy to be back at Emmaus. Although these are not his exact words, Fr. Gielow expressed, “I felt the day was a great success and I loved sharing my message with such a receptive group of people.”
Kudos to the Ladies of Charity who invited Fr. Gielow to present! Additionally, the Ladies of Charity made a generous donation toward funding this event. Thank you also to Sharon Perkins, former Director of Adult Faith Formation at Emmaus, who followed through with this event even though she now works as the Director of Evangelization and Catechesis for the Diocese of Austin.
Bridge & Michael Bertram from Papa Murphy’s in Lakeway provided a delicious lunch of vegetable lasagna, salad and bread for attendees. They are hardworking, wonderful people! Please remember them when your family is craving pizza or other yummy things!
Last, but definitely not least, a huge thank you to all of the volunteers who helped make this day possible. They are the “Icing on the Cake!” Volunteers included: Louisa Barta, Patti Cunningham, Gail Finnegan, Karen Knaus, Jan Leffler, Barbara Maggio, Marijo Marcoux, Amy & Peggy Moraczewski, Mary Murphy, Mary Cay Murray, Carol Nex and Linda Rives. Please accept a sincere apology if anyone was inadvertently left off this list.
