Let’s celebrate Mother’s Day by asking Congress to pass higher wage standards that could lift hardworking mothers and their children out of poverty.
Women make up two-thirds of the minimum-wage workforce in America, and millions of the minimum-wage-earning moms are primary providers with young children. If Congress acted to pass a minimum wage increase and stopped condoning poverty wages, more than 17 million children would benefit from their parents getting a raise.
Ask Congress to end poverty pay and raise the federal minimum wage now!

We don’t need a minimum wage – we need a living wage – one that will allow families to move out of poverty and live a decent and meaningful life.
Dear Mary,
Thank you for your response. You are correct. For over a century Catholic social teaching has pushed for living wages. The living wage movement believes that people who work full-time should not have to raise their families in poverty, as millions now do. There are two fronts in the living wage movement the effort to raise the national federal minimum wage and the effort to create higher living wages on the state and local level. Let us continue to all in our power to allieviate poverty through charity, education and participation in securing just legislation for people who are poor.
