The Ladies of Charity Diocese of Buffalo’s annual Mass of Remembrance was held on Thursday, June 17 at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Shrine, Bowmansville. Mass was concelebrated by Fr. Roy Herberger and Fr. Lukasz Kopala, pastor of Sacred Heart Church. Deceased members were honored and remembered fondly for their many years of service to the poor. Fr. Roy’s homily spoke of the impact LOC volunteers have on the lives of those living in poverty.
LCUSA President Peggy Keene, Northeastern Vice President Irene Siedlarczyk, Mid Atlantic Vice President Karen Radu, and Fran Simkulet, outgoing president of the Binghamton Ladies of Charity, were honored guests. Peggy and Irene joined Father Roy, Kathleen Roseti and Linda Hall in the investiture of new members who attended the Mass.
Luncheon Following Mass Honors Outgoing Director Eileen Nowak
A luncheon followed at Joseph’s Banquet Center, Depew, to recognize and honor Eileen Nowak, who retired June 30 as director of the Buffalo Ladies of Charity, after more than 30 years in that role. In addition to messages by Peggy and Irene, tributes by Kathleen Roseti and Kathleen Sieracki highlighted the many people Eileen has helped through her work with Catholic Charities and the Ladies of Charity and her positive impact on our organization. Eileen gave a heartfelt message on her personal experience with our organization, but especially our members, many of whom became her friends. She thanked everyone for a perfect and unexpected day as well as the gifts presented to her. We will be forever grateful for Eileen’s leadership and friendship and wish her well on her next adventure!

This was one of the most outstanding events we have had for the Buffalo Diocesan Ladies of Charity. The outdoor Mass and Investiture were beautiful and the luncheon that followed was a treat in many ways. The day was a fitting tribute to Eileen Nowak!
Congratulations to Eileen on her retirement & to the LOC of Buffalo on their 80th anniversary.
