This Lenten season has set an unusual precedent for Christ’s Church. As we prepared for Jesus’ passion, death, and resurrection and the renewal of faith in our lives, the Church underwent a similar transformation. We saw the first resignation of a pope in 600 years and the quick election of a successor, Pope Francis. The message Pope Francis brought to the people gathered in St. Peter’s Square was one of service to those living in poverty. He re-emphasized he was the Bishop of Rome and we, the people, were the Church of Christ. His election promises a renewal of the Church and an evangelization of Christ’s message. The Ladies of Charity of the United States wish you a Joyous Easter as we look forward to the rebirth and renewal that awaits each of us on Easter Sunday.
