Dear AIC volunteers,
On 26th July, we will celebrate the Sixth World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly. On this occasion, Pope Leo XIV addresses a message of hope to elderly people around the world, which we are happy to share with you.
Drawing on the words of the prophet Isaiah, “I will never forget you” (Is 49:15), the Bishop of Rome speaks out against the tendency to neglect many older people. He reminds us that old age, despite ill health that may set in, remains a time of grace, faith and mission, in which everyone can bear witness to hope, pray for the world and help to build peace. The Pope invites the Church and families to rediscover the richness of elderly people’s presence and vocation.
May this Day be for all of us an opportunity to renew dialogue between generations and to help all elderly people around us feel the Lord’s affection. May the words of the prophet Isaiah take the shape of a unique, heartfelt encounter.
With our very best wishes and in union of prayer,
On behalf of the Permanent Committee,
Tayde de Callataÿ
AIC International President
