After celebrating 55 years as priests, the Western Province of the Congregation of the Mission wanted Fathers Bob and Dick Gielow, CM, to take some time off.
Father Dick, LCUSA Vincentian Spiritual Advisor, writes, “In 55 years as priests, we have never taken a sabbatical or time off since we have Parish Missions scheduled every year. So, we took some time off to revisit Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. Last time we were there on a Mission Cruise, we celebrated Mass on the main altar. Now we were blessed to see the Cathedral redone and more beautiful than ever. We also visited the Miraculous Medal Shrine and the motherhouse of the Vincentians where St. Vincent de Paul and St. John Gabriel Perboyre are honored. We then went to Rome for an audience and the amazing opportunity to meet Pope Leo XIV!”

Father Dick continued, “We met Pope Leo on October 8, 2025 after the general audience. He visited with us after his remarks at audience. He knew we were twins and celebrated 55 years as priests and were still conducting parish missions. He thanked us for our ministry. After he knew we were lifelong Chicago White Sox baseball fans as he is, he just said, ‘Maybe next year.'”
