DCLOC June 2025 Quarterly Meeting Attendees

On Saturday, June 14, 2025, the District of Columbia Ladies of Charity Parish Units (DCLOC) held its first in-person Quarterly Meeting since COVID-19. What a beautiful day it was seeing all of the ladies face-to-face again; and, welcoming seven new members into this ministry of ladies doing God’s work.

New Members and DCLOC Officers

Rev. Cezary Kozubek, Pastor of the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in DC, was the Mass Celebrant and officiated the Induction of the New Members and the Installation of New Officers, who are as follows: Bertha Guerra, President (St. Gabriel); Dr. Ellen Taylor, Vice President (Holy Comforter-St. Cyprian); Debbie Jackson, Recording Secretary (Holy Comforter-St, Cyprian); and, Toni K. Gaines, Treasurer (Our Lady of Perpetual Help).

Several topics were discussed during the meeting but the major topic of discussion was the upcoming LCUSA National Assembly to be hosted by the Association of the Archdiocese of Washington (ADWLOC) Parish Units. Octavia Jackson, Vice President of the ADWLOC led the discussion and answered questions regarding the upcoming National Assembly.

The members were reminded of six major things: 1) to make hotel reservations by August 19th; 2) apply for the LCUSA Scholarship by June 30th; 3) purchase t-shirts & hats by due date; 4) place a personal or unit ad in the program to help defray the cost of the Assembly; 5)donate to the silent auction; and, 6) donate as a unit or personally specifically to cover the cost of transportation to Emmitsburg, MD for the Day of Reflection.

Linda Jenkins, DCLOC Spiritual Moderator prayed the “Volunteer Prayer” as the closing prayer for the meeting; and, a special “Hail Mary” was recited for several of our sick/hospitalized: Travia Stone, Mary Taylor, Betty Wright and Melvina Norried-Thomas.

Thank you to Cheryl Hamlin-Williams, President of St. Benedict the Moor LOC for volunteering to host the first in-person meeting post-COVID and a special thanks to all the LOC of St. Benedict for their hospitality and delicious repast.
