The following updates were shared in the Charity Link newsletter of the Ladies of Charity of Buffalo.
Christmas Toy Program
In November and December, Ladies of Charities volunteers, led by Catholic Charities Outreach Specialist, Denise Watroba, helped to fill bags of toys on site at the new toy distribution center at St Benedict’s Campus in Amherst. We filled 861 bags with toys, games and books. Each child also received a new hat and gloves, many handmade by members of the Ladies of Charity. Children in WNY communities received these items through Catholic Charities of Buffalo workers.
Thank you to all who assisted with our Christmas ministries!
A Christmas Blessing
Delivered by Sandy, Norm, and Jan, of the St Brigid Ladies of Charity in Bergen, Genesee County. Their parish family “Our Lady of Mercy and St. Brigid”, again collected over 600 pairs of new socks in their “Sockember” collection for distribution to the Catholic Charities clients we serve through our clothing referral program. Many, many thanks!
Have Collectibles You Don’t Want?… We Now Sell on eBay
In November, we started to sell some of our more valuable donated items, that we are unable to sell in our thrift store, on eBay. One of our newer members has offered to list a limited number of items to sell on eBay.
For those unfamiliar with selling on eBay, the item is photographed, researched and described when listed for sale. We set a desired selling price and a shipping price. If it is sold, it is then packaged up and shipped to the buyer. eBay takes their commission and gives us the balance of the sale.
In three months, we sold 27 items for a total of over $1,210 profit. All of this profit goes to Ladies of Charity for their use.
Do you have collectibles in your house that you no longer want? Are they in good condition, clean, with no chips or cracks? If they have a market value and are of a reasonable size to ship in a box… consider donating these items to Ladies of Charity. We will try to turn them into cash and continue our ministries of assisting the poor. Thank you!
