Spotlight on LOC of Metropolitan Kansas City

The 400th anniversary celebration and annual national assembly of the Ladies of Charity USA was hosted by the Metropolitan Kansas City Ladies of Charity Association September 7 – 10 at the Downtown Kansas City MO Marriott Hotel.

Approximately 80 ladies volunteered with the goal of making this assembly a huge success. These ladies worked to provide a nice environment in which to listen and learn from several outstanding speakers. They also provided for the staffing and materials for the registration desk, the silent auction, the table decorations, the program guide, the fund raising event as well as the publicity. In addition, the tours added fun and education to the assembly by featuring visits to the WW1 Memorial, the Nelson Art Gallery and a taste of KC BBQ hosted at the Alexander Major’s Home.

Bishop James V. Johnston Jr. welcomed the Ladies of Charity, and he spoke of some of the sights and features of the city, including the Kansas City Royals, the Chiefs, and of the many Kansas City fountains. He noted that the only city in the world with more fountains than Kansas City is Rome, Italy.

The three-day assembly was filled with meetings, panel discussions, talks and presentations, as well as banquets and breakfasts that were all arranged by our National Board committee.

Ladies of Charity of Metropolitan Kansas City was founded in 1952 from St. Vincent’s Maternity Hospital and St. Anthony’s Baby Home auxiliaries. Currently, Ladies of Charity serve at Seton Center, Villa St. Francis, Cristo Rey High School in Kansas City, MO., and Duchesne Clinic in Kansas City, Kansas, in addition, to many other venues that help to support those living in poverty.
